Today In Sports History: Dikembe Mutombo Rejections!

in #history7 years ago (edited)

Besides being the name on the back of some of the dopest jerseys in the history of the NBA (1992 Nuggets, 1996 Hawks, 2001 76ers), being an internet meme, a hilarious TV actor and a well known humanitarian ( he is originally from the Congo), Mutombo is also #2 on the all-time blocks list.

The 7'2 center was drafted in 1991 by the Denver Nuggets and made several stops throughout his career, including time with the Hawks, Sixers, Nets, Knicks and finally the Rockets until his retirement in 2009.

It was on January 10th, 2007, that he surpassed Kareem Abdul Jabbar in total career blocks. He recorded 5 blocks in the game against the Lakers, and jumped to number 2 on the list, behind on Hakeem "The Dream" Olajuwon.

Mutombo retired with 3,289 total blocks through 1,196 games. An average of 2.75 blocks per game. Olajuwon's record of 3,830 blocks is still intact today.

Something about Houston must lend to blocked shots, as Olajuwon, Mutombo and Tree Rollins are all in the top 10 and all played in Houston in their careers.

Stay tuned, and as always, #TTP
