This is a signed antique crazy quilt. These quilts are very popular for their colors, artwork and they are still functional. They are great examples of early American Folk Art, creativity and artistry.
Back in the day, when courting age, women would show their worth and abilities by creating quilts and clothing. The women would take old, but colorful and useful pieces of clothing and old blankets and turn them into beautiful quilts. They used fabrics such as silk, cotton and brocade fabric and cut them into random shapes. Then they would take different threads and yarn and sew them together with decorative stitching.
