The most common in the USSR passenger short-distance trains ЭР9П/ER-9P

in #history7 years ago

ER-9P the first Soviet electric train of an alternating current. Produced from 1957 to 1962 with the joint participation of a number of factories. Subsequently, a large-scale release of its upgraded version - ER9 was established.
Consisted of factory designations of wagons:
motor intermediate car (Mp);
trailed head car (Pg);
trailer intermediate car (Pn).

ER9 (1962-2002) is an improved modification of the electric train ER7 (1957-1962).
ER7, in turn, is the final model of the original ER1 (1957-1963).

The basic composition of the electric train:

2Pg + 5Mp + 3Pp (10 cars),

fully corresponds to the composition of the original ER1. In general, the electric train could be formed, as well as ER1, according to the formula:

(Pg + Mn) + 0..3 × (Mp + Pp) + (Mp + Pg),

i.e. clutch sections from the motor and trailer cars. Thus, it was also possible to operate in compositions:

2Pg + 4Mp + 2Pp(8 cars);

2Pg + 3Mp+ 1Pp (6 cars);

2Pg + 2Mp (4 cars).

Brief technical specification of 10 wagon composition

Constructional speed -----------------------------------------130 km/h
The hourly capacity of 10 wagons ---------------------------3640 kW
Tare weight of motor car ---------------------------------------------60 t
Tare weight of trailer car ---------------------------------------------37 t
Tare weight of the head car ------------------------------------------39 t
Number of passenger seats ----------------------------------------1022
The average acceleration acceleration to 60 km/h ------0.6 m/s2
Body width according to corrugations ---------------------3521 mm

All electric trains starting from the ER1 series have the same appearance. Starting with ER9, two types of driver's cab appear: the traditional semi-circular and rectangular, which makes it difficult to identify trains. Alphabet identification immediately follows the designation of the series. And these letters are a great many. Since the series of these trains originate in 1957 (and even earlier, if we talk about the project), then with the improvement of electric drives, the trains themselves also improved, having the same appearance. And to determine the year of production, which drive is installed, which braking system, the features of the train could only be identified by a specialist. Or a railway worker, as well as numerous train lovers.

Trains have very high quality trolleys and chassis. It was enough only to change the electrical equipment to a more modern one. And have working repair plants. ER1 still travel and carry passengers in the Crimea, and also somewhere in Transcarpathia in western Ukraine.

"ЕР" - is the "ЭР" (ER) in ukrainian language.
After the Crimea passed under the jurisdiction of Russia, most likely the letter has already been changed to Russian "Э"

On the my main photo - trains ER9 at the railway station of the city of Magnitogorsk in 2008. Trains information: Magnitogorsk-Beloretsk and Magnitogorsk-Kartaly.

Now these trains are unfortunately written off. I think it was impossible to do so, but who cares about my opinion.

The main explanation for the removal of trains from service:

The comparatively low acceleration during the acceleration of the train (0.45 m / s²), the low design speed (85 km / h) of the SR3 already by the mid-1950s began to restrain the growth of the average technical speeds of suburban traffic. The sections of the CH series even had a higher design speed (130 km / h) and traction motors with a power of 200 kW, but due to the relatively low ratio of the coupling weight to the total weight of the train (the ratio of motor cars to trailers was 1: 2) could not significantly increase the speed of movement, especially on short distances.

I agree that we need to save energy and time. But why destroy the whole project when new strong metals and alloys appear.
It was possible to improve the inner filling and keep the appearance the same.
For example, we could make new comfortable seats, new driver's cab and the train would be priceless.

It's a very nice train. It's my opinion.

I do not know where people are rushing. It's nice to get on the train and watch the hour out of the window to the landscapes, than to get on the high-speed train-bullet and arrive for twenty minutes, nothing beautiful without noticing.

Unfortunately.....
