The leader who has changed the destiny of a nation

All real nations have important leaders in their history. There are always important people who can gain the love of their people with their work. When we consider The Republic of Turkey, this person is Mustafa Kemal Atatürk without any doubt. It has been 79 years since Atatürk died on the 10th of November, 1938. As we do every year, many Turks remember how important Atatürk is for the nation. What makes Atatürk important is that Mustafa Kemal Atatürk changed the destiny of the nation by fighting for its indepedence even though many people lost their faith in the country in the early years of 1900. After the Ottomans lost their power and started to go down, the region where Turkish people are living now was open to be occupied by lots of different countries. Turkish people were desperately looking for the signs of hope to recover and build a new country. The nation needed a person to encourage people to work hard and gain their independence. Atatürk was the person who managed to make all nation stand up.

Atatürk and his great success

Turkey is in a region where there are always conflicts. If you look at what is happening in Syria now, you can understand that democracy and secularism are really important for the countries in the region. Atatürk was the founder of democratic and secular Turkey. Thanks to him, Turkish people have the rights to live their lives the way they wish. We owe him so much for all the things that he provided for us. Turkey is the only secular country in this region and people can practise their religion as they wish, there is no pressure on their beliefs . If you look at Iran, Syria and Iraq, you can understand how important he is for us.

Women and children

Women and children were really important for Atatürk. He always said that a strong country always needs powerful women. Women never deserve to be trapped at their homes. Turkish women got many rights thanks to him. If Turkish women are able to work and have education now without any obstacles in their lives, that is all thanks to Atatürk.

Atatürk loved children as well. He was paying attention to their education so much. After the modern Turkey was founded, he immediately started to build schools and new alphabet which is Latin for the people. According to his ideas, a strong nation must have people who are educated and free, so all people, including children and women in Turkey and the world must be completely free.

Yearning

We are really lucky to have had a leader like Atatürk. We still miss and love him so much. Every year, on this day, I remember and understand how important leader he is for us. The country that you founded will last forever and we promise to preserve the Republic of Turkey until the last breath we take.
