The longest sword ever to be found!

Hello my fellow steemians. These days, I’m really struggling with my poetry writing. Some other concerns are affecting my mood to write poetry. But my writing on steemit isn’t bound to just writing poetries or stories. Today I’m going to share with you my knowledge about the longest sword to be found so far.

In the ancient world, the sword was the most important weapon of all. And, undoubtedly, the Japanese were one of the greatest sword fighters of all time, keeping in mind the legendary Samurai warriors. I’m utterly fascinated with the Samurai from my childhood, and still obsessed with it (sadly, I’ve never got the chance to learn sword fighting)

In Japan alone, there were a vast variety of swords in terms of shape, size, manufacturing method and field of application. It won’t be excessive if one calls Japan “The Land of Swords” - well, I like to call it that (my bad).

Now, given Japan’s history and culture’s close relation with swords, it is no surprise that the longest sword in the world has been found in an early sixth century Japanese underground grave in 2016.

According to the archaeologists who’ve found it, called it a “one-of-a-kind discovery”.

The underground tunnel tomb, in which the sword has been found, is called “Burial Site 139” situated in Kyushu Island in the territorial division of Miyazaki.

How long is the sword?

The long sword is about 142 centimeters in length, which includes the remains of the wooden handgrip.

The researchers said that in its full condition, the sword would have been at least 150 centimeters long. Distinguishing the weapon, there are details like a warp-modeled brocade on the sword’s scabbard.

Along with that sword, there has been another significant discovery; another sword! However, the second one isn’t that long, but the experts say that a ray skin covering the hilt, has made it the oldest item with ray-decoration ever to be found in Eastern Asia.

It is the belief of the experts that the origin of the swords is the kingdom of Paekche, which is 1 of the 3 kingdoms to rule the Korean Peninsula. The kingdom is believed to have had substantial affiliations with Yamato Japan.
Both of the swords hint of high social status.

The Burial site’s construction and style reenforce its association to the Kofun Period, since it resembles other underground graves discovered in the nearby Mizazaki and Kagoshima territory.

Archaeologists have also excavated a lot of worthful ancient artifacts previously at the same site, including valuable grave goods, weapons, and armors. However, none was as significant as that sword.

Here’s the thing, a sword that long cannot be used for cutting vegetables 😂.

not to mention all the bluntness it has gained over all those years :D

Exactly and think of cutting those cabbages with that bluntness 😂😂.

It is a fascinating sword and a great post you have made about it. It is not however the longest sword ever found. That said it is probably right that it is the biggest sword of such age. In the sixth century swords of that size was very rare. Later in the 12-15 centuries they became comparably common though.
A European longsword is app 130 cm long, and there are hundreds of those. Zweihanders or Montantes are often more than 200 cm long and can be as long as 250 cm.
In china they have the Miaodao which are often around 200 cm or more, and several other cultures have similar two-handed swords.
it must have been a great feat of craftmanship to make such a big sword with the technology available at that time

oh, I didn't know these man, thanks for taking the time to inform me - I really appreciate it :)

The muse will return soon. I hope you are good friend of mine

thanks samic :)
