Effects of terrorism on a country. Specifically Pakistan.

Pakistan is one of the most prominent countries that has been badly influenced by terrorism. The acts of terrorism are threatening the law and order situation of Pakistan, violating human rights of the citizens, damaging basic infrastructure and future economic opportunities. It has effected not only the economy of Pakistan but also other important fields like education, industries, tourism along with internal peace, international reputation and the prospects of prosperity. Some of the effects of terrorism on Pakistan are further discussed below:

Effects on economy:

As a consequence of terrorism, Pakistan has had to suffer severe negative impacts to its economic growth both in terms of direct costs to fight against extremism along with decreasing investment inflows and market confidence.

Effects on education:

Education has also become a victim of the war on terror. Religious extremists have destroyed many schools for providing modern or western education to children and specifically girls. Many schools had to be abandoned out of fear of terror attacks.

Social implications:

The social impacts of this prolonged war on Pakistan have been horrible. Hundreds of suicide bombings that occurred in our country inflicted massive damages to the physical infrastructure and expenditure incurred on law and order squeezed the economy more than ever resulting in the diversion of public expenditure to security. Counter terrorism campaigns against the terrorist militants in KPK and FATA brings many social and psychological sufferings to them.

Increase in criminal activities:

According to statistics, Pakistan currently has an average crime index of 53.32 in 2017 which is among the highest in Asia. It varies from region to region with Karachi having crime index of 63.28. The criminal activities have increased in number along with terrorist activities.
