Great City of Pergamon

in #history7 years ago (edited)

Today Pergamon is a small antique district connected to the City of Izmir Turkey ( Where I am currently living ) and Today I'm going to tell what lies beneath the mysterious Anatolian History.

History is an amazing thing in my point of view same as learning how magnificient civilization pergammon was. At the beggining pergammon was only a small fortress but with the fall of Alexander the Great he left just a little portion of his fortune in the city , therefore it civilization starts to flourish and become a beacon of light for other civilizations.

The cities library was so big , therefore egypt stopped the papyrus trade for this area in order to maintain their biggest library. ( What an ego ) this never stopped the Pergamon's to invent though. Interesting part comes now since Percamon cant use papyrus they invented parchment and they start to use writings as tomes. It was the first usage of parchment in the history.

A Doctor from Pergamon named Galenos was the first person who ever used herb mixtures to make medicine and also when he was doing his doctor duty with Gladiators he defended the theory that regular daily body movements are good for human health.

The Kingdom has given to the Rome Empire with the will of King III Attalos , but the important people from that era rebelled this decision with the promise of freedom to the slaves in Pergamon the riot gained a lot of support but sadly the riot prevented by Rome Empire. It was the biggest Slave Riot ever seen before Spartacus.

The famous library was gifted to the Alexandria by Marcus Antonius and all the books were carried to the Alexandria Library with ships. Finally all the information was gone with the attack of christians to the Alexandria Library in 400 BC

And Also In 1800's some of the buildings were shipped to the germany and you can now see them in Pergamon Museum in Berlin and also The Altar of the Zeus

As Turkish people we are not good to protect and own our heritage .

Sort:

I have seen the facade of the temple in Berlin. It is crazy to think that they destroyed an ancient site just fill their museum. But, at that time, everybody was doing it, the British, the French...

To be honest they got the right from the Ottoman Empire while the Germans were building the railroad for us they just wanted one thing the things we find in digging close to railroad is ours and ofcourse Ottoman didnt care

I guess Turkey cares now.

I wish I could say yes but it is improved for sure
