A Deserted Island , Hashima

in #history6 years ago

Well it was one of the most populated islands in past , however after the reserves depleted in the Island the mines shutted down and they excavated the Island. The island looks like a ghost island today because of this , lets take a look to this interesting Island Hashima

In the recent years the tourism started in the Island , sadly you can only visit the small part of the island after you visit that part you can sightsee rest of the island from the ship. If you go from Nagasaki port the entire tour takes like 3-4 hours and it approximetely costs 4.800 yen.

Well going to island is pretty simple you just need to get the train from Nagasaki train station and you need to take ferry after that it is pretty simple.

Well after the discovery of coal mines in the Island in 19th Century , the local lord was operating the island. After some time Mitsubishi bought the island. The workers were working in 4 different tunnels which was under 1100 meter from sea level. Well after all those hospitals , company workers ,school ,cinema and other buildings population reaches to 5500 and when we consider the size of the island that was quite a lot. The island was 130x450 meters.

It has the japans first reinforced concrete apartments , primary and middle school , cinema , arcade saloon , temple , hospital , pre education school , swimming pool , a conference room for island folk and a lot more. First they were creating water from sea however it couldn't enough for demand , they started to get water from the closest city with the pipes. They were generating electiricty with generators

However the total domination of petrol in energy markey created the doom for this island. Mitsubishi closed all the coal mines and after 1 year the island folk couldn't find any job and they leaves the island and in 1973 the Island populations becomes 0.

Not long ago Mitsubishi gives the Island to city of Nagasaki and they immedeatly start to work to make Island in the list of Unesco heritage and they started tourism to Island.

Well you may be confused that from the pictures but the Island is not in the middle of ocean , It is only 3 kms away from the city and you can see the apartments and you can possibly see the fishers hunting around the ghost island

Thanks for Reading & Hasta La Vista!
