4 Uncovered History of Malaysia

in #history6 years ago

Malaysia is not only a neighboring nation for Indonesia, but also a cognate family because both come from the same ancestor of the Old Malay (Austronesia). So, it is appropriate for us as the Indonesian nation to know more about Malaysia. Here, ane present 7 history of Malaysia that is rarely known to Indonesian people.

  1. The Aceh Sultanate Ever Reigned Up to Malaysia

During the reign of Sultan Iskandar Muda (1608-1637), the Sultanate of Aceh once ruled Malaysia. Areas of Malaysia belonging to the Aceh provincial government include Kedah, Malacca, Johor, and Trengganu. But as the arrival of the European Nation to the archipelago, Aceh's power territory began to shrink.

  1. Malaysia Ever Been Invaded by Thailand

Just like Indonesia, Malaysia was once colonized by the Portuguese (1511), Dutch (1641), English (1874), and Japanese (1941). But not many people know that Malaysia was once colonized by Thailand. Yes, this incident occurred in 1821. Kedah region in northern Malaysia was attacked by the Kingdom of Thailand which is still called the Kingdom of Siam or Rattanakosin. War lasted for 5 years until finally, through Burney Agreement in 1826, four states of Malaysia also fell into the hands of Thailand, before then taken by the British.

  1. Malaysia Ever Named the Name "Malaysia" with the Philippines

At its inception (1957), Malaysia was named Malaya. But when the territory of Sabah and Sarawak merged with Malaya (1963), Malaya's name was changed to Malaysia. But before that, around the 1960s, the Philippine parliament had put forward the name "Malaysia" to become the name of their country. But because it was preceded by Malaya, the Philippines also crossed out the name "Malaysia" from their potential country names.

  1. Malaysia Betrayed Manila Agreement, Making Indonesia and Philippines Angry Big

In 1963, Malaya, Indonesia, and the Philippines agreed to allow Sabah (North Kalimantan), Sarawak, and Brunei to determine their own destiny. But then Malaya declared the formation of the Federation of Malaysia which includes Sabah and Sarawak. This is clearly contrary to the Manila Agreement, which left Indonesia and the Philippines very angry. Bung Karno as President of Indonesia immediately declared war with Malaysia. Indonesian military forces and unofficial Indonesian forces began to invade Sabah until Malaysian forces could not do anything about it. This prompted the British to intervene by sending troops from New Zealand and Australia led by General Sir Walter Colyear to fight against Indonesian forces led by Admiral Omar Dhani and Great General A.H. Nasution. The war continued for three years, ending in 1966 when President Sukarno was overthrown by the New Order regime. New President Suharto apologized and declared peace with Malaysia.

Hello @silentman,

Thank you for having interest in using #cn-malaysia tag.

For your information, CN tag stands for Chinese, and MALAYSIA tag represents Malaysia and Malaysian authors.
Malaysians writing in Chinese are encouraged to use this tag for us to easily identify Malaysians and also a channel where we can announce all upcoming events in Malaysia.

Below are the criteria:

  1. Content with at least 40% of Chinese words authored originally by the blogger
  2. Translated content directly from translating tool does not count
  3. If the content has nothing concern to Malaysian, nor in Chinese language, do refrain from using the tag #cn-malaysia . Further usage would be deemed as tag abuse and further action would be taken.

Therefore, we recommended that do not use #cn-malaysia if the requirement is not met. Hence, there will not be any vote from our team.

Thank you for your understanding.

Best regards,
