Les gardes suisses

Here is a photo of a token print in the book "Rois et Reines de France". This book inventory the royal tokens of the " Bibliothèque Nationale of France" , which get the collection of the french kings .
This token is about the creation by the king Louis XIII of the royal guard called "cent (100) suisses" in 1616. This guard was build with army men from switzerland .
This counter is a copy from Nuremberg of the french tokens, it was made by Wolf Lauffer (W.L.).

On the obverse : LVDOVIC XIII D G FRANCOR ET NAV F the king on his horse.
On the reverse : REGIS SACRA FOEDER MAG two columns with palms under a crown.

Jeton de Nuremberg reprenant les jetons des rois de France, commémorant la création par le roi Louis XIII du régiment royal des "cent suisses". Ils resteront jusqu'à la révolution la garde d'élite rapprochée des rois de France. De nombreux soldats de se régiment paieront de leur vie le serment fait au roi lors de la révolution.
