The Isle of Skye takes its nam
The Isle of Skye takes its name from the old Norse sky-a, meaning ‘cloud island’, a Viking reference to the often-mist-enshrouded Cuillin Hills. It’s the second-largest of Scotland’s islands, a 50-mile-long patchwork of velvet moors, jagged mountains, sparkling lochs and towering sea cliffs.

Skye is a truly magical place. The island has a wealth of history, from prehistoric sites to brooding castles, but it’s most famous for its stunning scenery. Along with Edinburgh and Loch Ness, Skye is one of Scotland’s top-three tourist destinations.

It’s also home to the cute Skye Terrier. Alexander Graham Bell once taught a stray Skye Terrier to talk. By training the dog to growl on cue and then manipulating his mouth and throat, Bell could make him produce the phonemes "ow, ah, ooh, ga, ma, ma," to say "How are you, Grandmama?"/storage/sdcard0/Amigo/ScreenLock/Favorite/2017-07-31_71144.png
