The talking bomb - A story from World War II

in #history9 years ago

On April 28 1944 bombs fall over a little village not far from here. There was war. Italy was occupied by Nazis. American Air Force tried to destroy strategic targets. Over Piteccio - that's the name of the little village - there was a great railway bridge. _That _was the target.

But, you know, it was war. It was World War II. Bombs weren't smart (they never are, today either). The village was seriously hit.

One of the bombs, though, didn't explode.

After the war, that bomb was disarmed and put in front of the local church, were it is still now.

A plaque is on the bomb. It says "I didn't explode not to kill".

A talking bomb in front of a church. This too is Italy. ^^
