History thoughts

in #history7 years ago (edited)

Recently I was having a conversation with someone who is about 20. This person had never heard of Hiroshima or Nagasaki.

My first thought was to question the state of education, but then I wondered about myself. One of the ironies of life is that you don't know how much you don't know, it's why they say ignorance is bliss because you don't know the extent of your own ignorance.

What I found myself wondering was what don't I know about that someone else would be appalled at? My knowledge of important events is limited, I'm not a historian, so what don't I know that I should?

It's a scary thought, really, contemplating your own ignorance.
