The indian history
Konark Sun Temple's exquisite wheel at the Konark Temple Complex in Konark, Orissa, India..It's a 13th Century CE Sun Temple dedicated to the Sun God Surya..The temple complex is believed to have built by King Narasimhadeva I of the Eastern Ganga Dynasty..The temple complex is in the shape of a gigantic chariot having elaborately carved stone wheels, pillars and walls..The name 'Konark' is a combination of 2 Sanskrit words: Kona (corner or angle) and Ark (the sun)..The Konark monument was called as 'The Black Pagoda' by European sailors being an important landmark for them..Iron beams were used for the structure..The chariot structure/ Ratha has 12 pairs of wheels exquisitely carved out in the northern and southern sides of the plinth masonry and drawn by a team of 7 spirited horses, speeding as if through the heavens..These wheels are exquisitely decorated around their axles and peripheries..The art work of each wheel differs and the wheels are interpreted as ' the sun dial'..This post is dedicated to my Late Paternal Uncle who had visited Konark Sun Temple...This post is written by Aban Mignonne Chinoy..💕
