RE: The Crazy Tale of Black Beard the Pirate
Jean Lafitte was my favorite, Jon. He actually helped us maintain our independence from Great Britain during The War of 1812...but maybe you already knew that...?
Loved the movie "Black Beard's Ghost," too. Have you seen it? Good old classic, and FUNNY! It has the father from "My Three Sons" as the main character...what was his name...?
Fred MacMurray...just came to me...no google either! Hah.
the movie sounds familiar but I don't remember it.
I remember Jean Lafitte but I don't remember him as being a pirate!
a good pirate? that's a great story.
Yeah...Pretty sure. I'd have to look it up to be 100%--and we're headed out here pretty quick-- but I swear he helped out Andrew Jackson around the time of The Battle of New Orleans; which, as it turned out, was AFTER peace had already been declared back East.
wow to that last sentence..the communications of the day!
Yea...it could take WEEKS to get messages back and forth between Washington and New Orleans in those days.
I was thinking days! boy am I optimistic!
Yep...weeks. Horseback riders, or sailing ship...No telegraph for another 50+ years....
