The goddesses of Roman pantheon differed greatly in their roles.The most widely worshipped was Vista, goddesses of the hearth, but all the goddesses had festival and popular shrines.They were also originally Italian goddesses to whom the Romans added attributes of greek goddesses.Vista was the counterpart of Hestia,Ceres was an old earth goddess who became equated with Demeter, Diana was a goddess of light anf the moon who became identified with Artemis, and Venus was linked with Aphrodite as goddess of love.

The hearth goddess was revered by all Romans.By keeping their fireplace clean and decorated at all times, they hoped that she would bring their home and family good fortune.

Worshipped mainly in the spring.Venus was perhaps surprisingly, the most dear to ordinary Roman soldiers who were about to set of an a military campaign.
