It is believed that there are about 2,500 archaeological sites in Bangladesh. As of June 2016, 452 archaeological sites have been found in Bangladesh. The Bangladesh Archeology Department maintains these archaeological sites. Likewise, let us know about some of the famous archaeological sites in our country.

Ahsan Manzil:

Founder of Ahsan Manzil, Nawab Abdul Ghani, This Purana is located on the banks of Buriganga River in Islampur, Dhaka. Construction of the building of 1859 began and ended in 1872. Nawab Abdul Ghani named the building according to his son Ahsan Manzil. This building witnessed many historic events, such as in 1906, a meeting of the Muslim League was formed in a meeting held in this building. The building is currently being used as a museum.

Wari Bateswar

An archaeological site located in Belab upazila of Narsingdi, just 70 kilometers away from Dhaka is Wari Bateswar. The castle located in the grounds is about 2,500 years old.

Kantajyu Temple :

Kantajyu temple is 20km from Dinajpur town and 7km away from Kahorol upazila headquarters, on the west side of the Dinajpur-Tentulia highway, on the banks of the river Dendampa. It was also known as the Nabaratna Temple due to the nine stories of the three-storey temple or gem. The temple is a beautiful temple built in the 18th century. It is known as the Krishna Temple, which is popular in Bengal as the religious custom of Radha-Krishna. Maharaja Sumit Dhar is believed to have been born here.

An ancient Buddhist monastery of Paharpur Buddhist Bihar is now destroyed. It is also known as Sompur Bihar or Somapura Mahavihara. Shri Dharmapala Dev, the second king of the Palais, was making this monastery in the ninth century. In 1879, Sir Cunningham discovered it. In 1985 UNESCO gave it the status of the World Heritage Site. Paharpur can be called the world's biggest Buddhism. For 300 years, it was the center of acquiring famous theology and theology of Buddhists from China, Tibet, Myanmar, Malaysia, Indonesia etc.

The oldest building in the Rajshahi region of Bangladesh is named Barakuthi. According to different sources, it is believed that the construction of Barakuthi in the first half of the eighteenth century. The first Dutch or Dutch had a business center. In the beginning of the nineteenth century, when the Dutch decided to withdraw their activities in India and in 1814 an agreement was signed with the British to transfer all the business centers of India to the East India Company. Until 1833, it was used as a commercial center. After the establishment of the University of Rajshahi in 1953, it was used as the first administrative building.

Located in Shibganj upazila of Bogra district, the eastern name of Mahasthangarh was Pundravardhana or Pundranagar which is one of the earliest ancient archeology of Bangladesh. At one time it was the capital of Bengal. There are many signs of Maurya, Gupta, Pala, and Sena empire found here.

Mughal Eidgah, a walled area in Dhanmondi's Satmasjid Road area. It is popularly known as Dhanmondi Eidgah. It is known from Eidgah's central Mehrab's inscription that Eidgah was built by his dewan Mir Abul Qasim about four hundred years ago in the time of Shah Shuja. Almost two and a half feet length and half a foot width are surrounded with lime-walled walls, but only today the main highway stands in the west. Eidgah is an attractive place for tourists.

Mainamati is a historic place in Comilla. The mainamnathi archaeological site of Lalmai is the oldest civilization in the region. According to the archaeologists, this area of Mainnamati named Joy Karantbasak is an ancient city and the remains of the Buddhist monastery.

Lalbagh Fort :

The ancient fort at the center of Lalbagh fort Dhaka. The Lalbagh fort stands as the historical monument of the Mughal period. Lalbagh fort is located in old Dhaka, it has been named Lalbagh Fort. As one of the most popular tourist destinations of Bangladesh, the Department of Archeology of Bangladesh Government maintains this fort.

Sixty dome mosque :

Sixty-Dome mosque is an ancient mosque located in Bagerhat district. The exact information about the mosque was not inscribed on it because it was not inscribed on it. It is found in the architecture of the mosque that Khan-i-Jahan was built. It was thought that it was built in the 15th century. In 1983, UNESCO gave it the status of World Heritage.

Sonargaon

An administrative center run under the Muslim rulers of Sonargaon Bengal. Sonargaon is an upazila of Narayanganj district, just 27 kilometers away from Dhaka. It is widely believed that this place was broadly surrounded by the Meghna, the Shitalakshya in the west, the Dhaleshwari in the south and the Brahmaputra on the north.
