Edirne

The first times Odris and Bettegeri communities started lived in Edirne and arround . In 1400 BC, Edirne was conquered by Akhaan's and started to be used as a city for the first time.

In 510 BC Edirne was conquered by the Persian empire. But the people of Odris who lived in Edirne later started a rebellion. And in the end of this revolt the Odris's began to direct Edirne. In 340 BC, Edirne was conquered by the Macedonians.

In 168 BC, Edirne began to be controlled by the Roman Empire. In 395, after the Roman Empire was divided into two, Edirne ruled the Byzantine empire. But since Edirne is a good trade center, the Goths, Huns, Pechenegs, Avars and Bulgarians often tried to conquer Edirne.

By 1361 Edirne had changed hands between the Bulgarians and the Byzantines. But in 1361 Edirne was conquered by the Ottoman Empire.

The Ottoman Empire used Edirne as the capital until 1453. After Istanbul became the capital of the Ottoman Empire, the significance given to Edirne decreased slightly. But Edirne was the entry gate in the Europe of the Ottoman Empire. Because of this, many investments were made by the Ottoman Empire to Edirne. And Edirne, have always been an important city for the Turks.
