Flags of the World #3 : Algeria!

in #history7 years ago

Hello followers and fellow Steemians who managed to run into my post! (or how I would like to call you from now on, new follower? maybe?)

This is my third post in a series to talk about the flags of the countries around the world. Knowing about a country's flag gives you a small glimpse into the culture behind the flag, since the meanings and imagery found on the flag often reflect the culture, lifestyle and beliefs of the people behind it! Well without further ado, lets begin with today's flag. To avoid country favoritism, the flags are done in alphabetical order.

Today's flag is: Algeria's Flag!

Flag of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria

The flag is composed of two equal vertical bands of green and white. In the middle you can find a red, five-pointed star within a red crescent centered over the two-colors. The crescent, the star, and the color green are traditional symbols of Islam. This flag was adopted on the July 3rd of 1962.

Meanings

The green color represents the beauty of nature in Algeria, some people say the green was chosen because it was the favorite color of the prophet and in the Quran green represents paradise.

The white color represents peace, purity and tranquility.

The red color represents the blood of those who fought for the freedom of the country while the crescent and the star represent the Islamic faith.

Facts

This flag design has been tied to the Algerian people since the French invaded them in the 18th century.

There's really not much to talk about this flag, since its pretty simple and straight forward in its history, there's nothing wrong with that though.

Thanks for reading up to this point and if you are kind enough please leave me a suggestion in how to improve my writing or the way i present information, I'm sort of new at writing and i chose this topic because its something i really like and i thought it would be easy enough to get some writing skills going before i jump into some tech articles... I'm planning on doing some blockchain education articles soon, I'll be mostly trying to simplify topics for people interested in the tech that don't want to read huge papers or for investors that are interested in going a step ahead and learn more about the tech behind of what they are investing their money into :-D. Thanks again for reading up to this point!

This is very interesting! I didn't know much about that country, apart from what people on the internet say about it. It's good to see some info about it's history.

Nice information! Even though there aren't many lines I at least learned that the colors of the Algerian flag represent Islam and why. :P

Good to know.
