As you say, very traditional, it was, on paper, outclassed by the Zero, and mainly used by the US planners as an escort to the bombers, still, they managed to get 99 on the scorecard before the faster Corsairs arrived.
By that stage, there was little to no aerial opposition and the Corsairs couldn't break the 100 for the fighter wing in the Pacific.
