Instituted in 1818 this order has three classes
[GCMG, KCMG/DCMG,and CMG.
Awarded for “distinguished administrative or
diplomatic service”.

Originally there could be 15 Knights Grand Cross
Now there can be up to 125 [GCMG]
20 Knights Commander, now 375 [K/DCMG]
25 Companions, now 1750 [CMG]

KNZM, CMG

Serves as Chairman / Member of 21 Boards in 5 different
Organizations across 7 different industries

Brigadier General Sir Herbert Ernest HART
KBE, CB, CMG, VD

13 October 1882 to 5 March 1968
Served in the Second Boer War and the First World War
Also served as Administrator of Western Samoa.

Colonel John Gethin HUGHES
CMG, DSO,

13 March 1966 to 23 Jul 1954
Served in Boer War and was the recipient of the DSO
Also served at Gallipoli, evacuated for medical reasons and
returned to NZ.
Retired from the NZ Army due to poor health in 1917

Colonel Charles Ernest Randolph MACKESY
CMG, CBE, DSO

9 January 1861 to 20 November 1925
Served at Gallipoli and Sinai and Palestine
Retired from the NZ Army late in 1919 he returned to
his farm and died of a heart attack.

Lieutenant General Donald Stuart “Don” McIVER
CMG, OBE

22 January 1936 to 22 August 2016
NZ Army who rose the be Chief of Staff 1987-89
Director of C+Security Intelligence Service 1991-99
OBE in January 1981
CMG in June 1995

Brigadier General William MELDRUM
CB, CMG, DSO, VD

28 July 1865 to 13 February 1964
Served at Gallipoli and the Sinai and Palestine
He returned to Law after the war
CMG in Gallipoli
MID twice at Gallipoli
DSO January 1917 for the ‘Battle of Rafa, Palestine
awarded Serbian Order of the White Eagle with swords,
for service at Gallipoli
CB for his services in Egypt and Palestine
MID twice in Egypt

Major General Charles William Melvill
CB, CMG, DSO,

8 September 1878 to 15 September 1925
Served with the British Army, transferred to NZ Army
Served on the Western Front in WW 1
When he died he was Commandant of NZ Military Forces
DSO in 1916 for his service through the Battle of the Somme
CMG for the Battle of Broodseinde on 4th October 1917
CB for breaching the Hindenburg Line and capturing the
Town of Crevecoeur
MID four times

Great info. Thanks.
It seems like Anglican church or Catholic was really involved in NZ government and military. They like the title St.
I also noticed Brigadier General William. He may have served as one of their Brigadiers, they often have a set of Brigadiers in their church
