The Annual Re-Enactment

Each year at historic Fort Sewall, Marblehead, Massachusetts, the town honors their hero of old, General John Glover.

General John Glover led the Marblehead Regiment through key strategic battles and engagements during the American Revolution (a colonial revolt that occurred between 1765 and 1783). General Glover lead over 600 Men and Boys, in George Washingtons Army as well as Privateer ships on behalf of the American Independence Movement from his Marblehead base and home.

John Glover was a Marblehead fisherman and merchant who rose to the rank of general during the Revolutionary War. His schooner was named the Hannah and was the first of many privateers (Ships that Sailed by authorization from George Washington as the beginning of the American Navy also originated in Marblehead Massachusetts by President Washginton). The Privateers mission was to raid British shipping.

Glover‘s Marblehead militia became commissioned as the 14th Continental Regiment, known as the “Amphibious Regiment,” which also served to evacuate Washington’s Continental Army after it lost the Battle of Long Island. Glovers seafaring men would also man the boats for Washington’s Crossing of the Delaware in 1776.

His home still stands at 15 Glover Square in Old Town, Marblehead, Massachusetts. (Pictured Below)
