Wow, that's pretty incredible! Did the area feel imbued with holiness? Probably, in some ways better that it wasn't paid more attention and that keeps it preserved.
You might be right. After so many attempts to modernise the area, all the plans failed. Maybe some hidden power is protecting the place!
