Datu Lapulapu is claimed to be the first Filipino hero who fought against Spaniards with Ferdinand Magellan which is a Portuguese. Datu Lapulapu is the first Filipino who reject the submission to a foreign power. Datu Lapulapu is also known of many different names just like the following :

  • Kolipulako
  • Caliph Lapu
  • Cali Pulaco
  • Cilapulapu
  • Khalifa Lapu
  • Salip Pulaka
  • Si Lapulapu
But no one knows what his true name this is because of the wrong translations of the different author. We don't even know also what his family name. Then also the exact date of his date birth and the day he died but it has a year on the day he born which is 1491. Then the year he died is 1542 but there are rumors and superstitious belief that Datu Lapulapu did not died and he just turned into stone but this is just a belief. I will just tackle later how Lapulapu died based on what I've known.

Datu Lapulapu is very known nowadays I'm sure because of the place that named after him. Actually I've read an article and it is stated on there that at age 6 Datu Lapulapu mastered to ride a horse and a carabao. At the age of seven he learned to write and read. He can do boxing well at the age of nine. At the age of eighteen he became a champion in swimming and in wrestling. Then at the age of twenty he beat the Bornean marauders and pirates.

Did you know why Ferdinand Magellan and his people lost the battle? One of the reasons is Magellan underestimated the force of the man of Lapulapu because of armors and weapon that they have. The Spaniards and Ferdinand Magellan lost that battle because they were outnumbered. Magellan has about 50 to 60 soldiers only while Lapulapu has about 1,500 soldiers. The soldiers of Lapulapu has a teamwork to fight against the spaniards soldiers so that's why Lapulapu won the battle. It's really Lapulapu who killed Magellan on the battle but the one of the soldier of Lapulapu who killed Magellan during the battle in Mactan on April 27, 1521. Lapulapu did not died on the battle. Based on my history class, after the battle Lapulapu did go to Borneo with his 11 childrens, 3 wives and 17 mens. Yes he has 3 wives because Lapulapu is muslim. Lapulapu just died normal, he died because he is getting older but there is an article that there is no records about the death of Lapulapu. Then some of the historians didn't sure about what happen on the Battle of Mactan because the one who wrote about the battle which is Antonio Pigafetta is 200 to 300 meters away from the battle because that time is low tide.

As you can see this is a image illustration of Lapulapu which it is not really true that this the face of Lapulapu based on the written article the I've read. This picture is a just a result of imagination. Actually there is a documentation in Abs cbn if I'm not mistaken, and it stated on there that the real Lapulapu is not a muscled man and fit. The real Lapulapu is short and fat then also during the battle of mactan Lapulapu is already 70 years old at that time and he didn't fight with his soldiers. No one knows about the exact detail about the life of Lapulapu on how he died and what happen on the battle mactan and even his real face and his body discription and including the real name. We don't even know his surname but the two things we know and never forget is that Lapulapu is an Intelligent and a brave warrior or hero.

Did you know also that Lapulapu appeared in one centavo from 1967 to 1974 in the Philippines ? As you can see below that is the one centavo before.

very good article, resteemed bro!

Thanks for the compliment bro :)

This post is full of information.

Actually back when we were still in College, I can remember when we've asked our teacher why is it that Lapu-Lapu is not our National Hero since he have fought for our country and he's the one who first did it. And she told us that we only have pigafetta's (if I am not mistaken with the spelling) article as evidence. So, lapu-lapu can't be the national hero because of lackness of evidence. Huhuhu

That's sad. However, I am happy you've shared this one @jumargachomiano.

Yea you're right @morken but anyways thank you so much.
