Roraima in 1835

in #history8 years ago

During the golden era of British Colonial rule, there were many adventures being lived. An intrepid explorer called Robert Schomburgk took off from London to South America, to define the borders between Venezuela, Brazil and the then British Guiana. Obviously he did not take a camera with him, since they had not been invented back then, so he made notes and sketches of what he encountered on his year long travels. Upon return to London he sat down with a famous illustrator called Charles Bentley and produced a wonderful set of hand colored lithographs in 1835. In 1973 I was allowed to reproduce these works, which I have available as monochrome platinum look-alike prints on fine art cotton paper. The inks are supposed to last 200 years.
