Part 2 - Welthauptstadt Germania: The Museums

in #history7 years ago

The monumental reconstruction programs that Hitler gave permission for supported the German industry and allowed unemployment in pre-war Germany to drop immensely, and it would secure Germany of full employment for decades to come.

The super-ambitious projects would involve the construction of the largest man-made structures the world has ever seen. It was Hitler's goal to transform Berlin into the new cultural center of the world, so great in its glory that it would deserve the title of 'World Capital'. The primary purpose of the colossal buildings that were to be erected in Berlin was ideological. As the centuries would pass, Hitler said that the monuments would get great holy significance and become just as important to National Socialism as St. Peters in Rome is to Roman Catholicism.

In this part I will show you the museums which Hitler had planned to be built in Berlin. East of the Brandenburg Gate, Berlin's museum Island was to be completely rebuild and extended.
