What I do find fascinating throughout both wars, little is mentioned of the African, African-American, Indian and other Continents, seldom being mentioned. True voluntary soldiers which over Centenary Remembrance Services, more coverage was given than previously.
"Conscientious objectors were made to take on medical roles and other "work of national importance" on the roads and land. " In essence there was no escape from the war, not many realize this aspect, men refusing being active in the war machine still ended up doing what was required of them at the time.
You're right. The thing is, it was so massive with millions of combatants involved in such titanic battles that the smaller roles tend to go unnoticed. I think there are still so many stories to be told. Each death was a tragedy whether it occurred in heroic circumstances in the heat of battle, or in drowning in a cold sea in a sinking ship
