Frank Moves, Mopes, And Baloons

in #history5 years ago (edited)

Howdy folks and greetings from the Great Plains of North Texas!

We're in a series about one of the top Texas Ranger lawmen to ever wear the badge, the great Frank Hamer, who was brought out of retirement to take down Bonnie and Clyde.

Recap

In the last post Frank pretty much wore out his welcome in Houston, being that he beat up three reporters and he knew the entire news machine would be undermining him from that point on. Plus, it didn't look good for law enforcement so he resigned.

He and Molly moved back to Navasota, Texas.

Today's story

The details are scarce about what Frank and Mollie did when they got back to rural Texas but we do know for sure that Frank ate well and continued to put on weight.

He'd started putting on the pounds as soon as he got married. It was said that Mollie was a really good cook. Plus his newly found love of ice cream didn't help!

That reminds me of that Batman meme lol:

Ok, it wasn't quite that bad but he went from a lean 190 pounds to a much fuller 240 pounds! He's a photo of him when he was in Houston. This is with Mollie's niece and you can see he's "rounding" out some:

It didn't help that he was unemployed and depressed because he wasn't working.

Frank was very private and didn't talk about himself and avoided the press, interviews and reporters and never wrote about his life so we don't know what was going on at this time except to say that he was NOT happy.

Mance Lipscomb was very happy to have him back in town though, remember Mance?

He was the young black boy who used to take Frank around in a buggy, like his personal driver, and went on to become one of the greatest Blues singers in the country.

He was 18 now and it's safe to assume that they spent some time together playing and fishing and so forth.

Back to work

Frank got a break when there was massive flooding in their county in 1913. He was asked to help the Marshal of Navasota, the man who took Frank's place. They helped evacuate people along the Brazos River but hundreds were found dead along the river when the waters receded.

Frank stayed on, helping the Marshal catch burglars in the county and that helped him but not his marriage, which was on the rocks. No one knows for sure what happened but they got a divorce the next year.

It was seemingly amicable though and they both spoke fondly of each other in later years.

This is what he was waiting for

From Navasota Frank was offered a job hunting sheep thieves in Kimble county, Texas which is on the edge of the Hill Country where he grew up. He was all over it.

He bought a great horse named Bugler, which became his all-time favorite, and he was back in the saddle!

Frank's story continues on the next post, he's really just getting started.

Thanks for reading folks, God bless you all!

PS- here's a couple more gravity-defying sculptures you might like.

This one's in London:

I don't know where this one is but it's a little unnerving:

Howdy steem-plus! Thanks for the upvote!

The last graffiti works looks scary. I wouldn't feel comfortable underneath it. The hinge looks thin.

Howdy sir lemeonna! I agree. I am sure it is well made and designed but it looks like a risk to me! How are things in Nigeria?

Things here are cool. Thanks

Nice contrast between old black and white photo and crazy sculpture!!

I agree sir kaminchan, I think it's an interesting mixture!

He's lucky they didn't have Twinkies, yet! Doubtful there was a donut shop, either.

That first one reminded me of this one in Rochester, MN. This naked boy is holding onto a dolphin's dorsal fin, which I didn't want in the photo... lol. I've wnated to get a photo of it after an ice storm, but the Mayo Clinic has taken to covering the statue in the winter months. Nothing says "cold" like a naked dude covered in icicles!

Lol! Yes nothing sends a cold message like that! I was thinking of putting the photo of this one up too, it's pretty darn cool.

Well, I guess the way to a man's heart is only through his stomach upon first meeting. Once the stomach is thoroughly full, the relationship is on its own.

I like that picture of him. He looks like a good soul.

Howdy ginnyannette! I agree, he was a very good guy. I also agree about the way to a man's heart! lol.

Perhaps Frank was not the marrying kind janton, he took a long long time to realise Molly was interested, lol.

I love it when people marry or settle into a live in relationship, they nest and put on weight. The fat batman photo is hilarious, so apt. Hahaha.

Howdy angiemitchell! Well Frank wanted kids real bad so I think he wanted to get married for that reason but he still might not have been the marrying type like you said!

Very good friends your stories post

Thanks so much for reading sir darmianto5!

Ok come back friends

I fold some laundry, washed the dishes and now I am back before I go wash my hair. Just want to know what is Frank up to and sure he made some radical changes! Oh boy! I did not expect him and Molly would split, that is quite a disappointing. However, I am glad he is back on the horse, literary and figuratively, lol.

And your obsession with mysterious sculptures continues, lol. Well, I must admit, those are really freaky!

I was disappointed to hear about them getting a divorce too. Would you stand under that second one like those people are?

I am not sure if I would, but I am guess it must be safe, lol!

I would do it but I wouldn't feel safe!

Mornin’ Cowboy! Batman turned into the good year blimp and too bad Frank lost his youthful trim figure along with Mollie.

I was surprised at a divorce as that would not be that common in those days. There is no mention of children. Mollie must have had her own means of support to leave Frank, although he was unemployed and depressed at the time.

Yeah, Frank was so private that he didn't reveal what their issues were but some speculate that he wanted kids really bad and they think maybe she couldn't have kids so that spoiled things for them.

How old was Mollie....? Like 12...... LoL

They married young back then......

Who you callin' fat there big boy @janton lol

I hover around 225 lbs. That would not be so bad but i am only 5'7" tall. I would like to get back down to 175lbs...!!!!

Chilly Morning here in Childress TX.

Wow is that shirt bright enough? Fluorescent chartreuse! lol. Well, you are at a disadvantage because you have to sit all day. You'll get back in shape when you stop driving in a few years. In the meantime enjoy the excuse! lol.

Yeah Frank was 6ft 2 so he could handle some weight. Oh, where you headed today?
