The cave remained closed until September 17, 1975, when the underground pit was artificially opened by dynamizing the entrance portion during the limestone mining operations. In the open pit the Traian Curta miner from Chiscau locally descended for the first time. He passed the access gallery to the Great Hall.
The annual cave is visited by over 200,000 tourists.
