Black George - Karadjordje

Topola is the place from where all my ancestors are, but it is not the reason why Topola below Oplenac peak is famous. Besides the beauty of nature surrounding this small town, it is well known as Karadjordje's Topola.

Djordje Petrovic Karadjordje was the leader of the First Serbian Uprising against the Ottoman Empire in 1804. year, and founder of the Serbian royal dynasty Karadjordjevic.

Today I would like to show you some images from the museum, placed in Karadjordje's Konak (home) and some externals preserved from the past.

The facts from the history anyone can easily find on Wikipedia and many other books and articles, but I prefer to listen some stories and legends from local people. I do not consider them as gossips, but only as some hidden parts from that period.
That's how I found out that Karadjordje had a very bad temper and everyone of his associates was afraid of him. His voice was very strong and loud, therefore many trembled while he spoke.

He was unusually tall (around 2 meters) and "strong as an ox". That's the exact comparison I've heard. He was merciless but just. The story about his brother and how he executed him, really horrified me, but not surprised me at all, since the history of all nations is fulfilled with blood. His brother didn't obey his orders and even raped one young girl, so Karadjordje killed him by his own hand, as an example for the others.

But, anyhow he is taking one of the most significant roles in Serbian history as brave, fearless and famous person, highly respected and appreciated.
