Today in History.- Gaza battle

On this day in 1917, the Third Battle for Gaza began when Allied forces under General Edmund Allenby launched an attack on Turkish positions at Beersheba, in Palestine.

The attack was made possible by General Allenby who was brought in to replace Sir Archibald Murray who had failed twice. When General Allenby took over, reinforcements were called in from the French side.
Allenby's attack came as a surprise in the early hours of the October.
