Today in History.- Explosion in Philips Petroleum

On this day in 1989, 23 people were killed in multi blasts caused by ethylene leak at a Philips Petroleum Company plant factory in Pasadena, Texas. The blast were as a result of inadequate safety measures.

It is said that in a bid to cut costs, Philip Petroleum Company subcontracted the maintenance work to a company that did not have the needed reputation to handle such work.
The explosion killed 23 people all workers of the company and injured no fewer than 130 others.
