Upon reading this quote, it seems that it could be attributed to anyone, but it indeed is said by Bonaparte. This quote is very much connected to the core belief that Napoleon had, that if you desire success, you should do it and depend upon yourself. Napoelon, achieved so many victories and enacted many decrees deciding by himself. You can definitely say that Napoleon could do this because he was the emperor of France, but one must think how did Napoleon even become that? One must look at his own history and realize that he had a lot of luck, but also required his sheer will and determination that allowed him to reach the pinnacles of power. So the quote, "If you want a thing done well, do it yourself," directly correlates to Napoleon's belief in himself and in his ability of doing it well.
When it comes to yourself, I think this quote is very useful and valuable. In my personal life, I have experienced some negative situations where I had depended on other people and had expected a certain outcome. Instead, it had been the total opposite, and I experienced disappointment. By understanding this quote, it is best to always trust in your own judgment in doing something. A lot of times you hear a lot of naysayers and that really does affect your thinking and actions. It is best to believe and do things by yourself, you can then expect it be done well. You can't always rely on others and expect the exact same result.
I particularly like Napoleon's quotes because they are strong in nature and for their brutal honesty. Though they are in your face, I admire the message and the thought it provokes in one's mind.
