I. August 20, 1794
After having control of Corsica since 1768, The French gave up and conceded rights to the Mediterranean island to the British. Not the first of colonial states to do so.

II. August 20, 1959
Composed entirely of Islands, Hawaii was accepted on this day into the Union making it the 50th and final state to do so. President Dwight D. Eisenhower was the leader in charge then.

Joint work between NASA and the University of London, Copernicus satellite is also known as, Orbiting Astronomical Observatory 3 was launched. It worked till 1981.

One of the most successful sportsmen of all time, American golfer, Tiger Woods became, on this day, the first golfer since 1953 to win 3 major titles in a calendar year after he won the PGA championship.
