The Blockchain In Ancient Egypt

in #history6 years ago (edited)

If you were placed in this tomb your soul would have to pass many tests.

You can see Ren looking at the line of God's you would have to meet.

You would need to tell each God that you had never done something. (Left Wall)
Real examples, "I have never stolen milk from a baby". "I have never spoken an untruth"

At the end your heart would be weighed on a scale against a feather. (Back Wall)

I felt like Indiana Jones himself going into this tomb.

The Original Blockchain

These are contracts from Old Assyrian civilization.
One carefully specifies the guidelines of a silver loan.
It states that Kukuanum , the man recieving the silver, may invest the precious metal, but must return it immediately when asked.

Just think this was almost 4000 years ago.

Hammurabis Code Of Law

The earliest recording of laws we have.
What's interesting to me is some of the basis of laws were not just, don't kill each other.

They had incentives aligned.

Examples of the laws:

229: If a builder builds a house for someone, and does not construct it properly, and the house which he built fall in and kill its owner, then that builder shall be put to death.

232: If it ruins goods, he shall make compensation for all that has been ruined, and inasmuch as he did not construct properly this house which he built and it fell, he shall re-erect the house from his own means.

233: If a builder builds a house for someone, even though he has not yet completed it; if then the walls seem to topple, the builder must make the walls solid from his own means.

Takeaway: Their laws aimed to align incentives.

They had very little space (like Twitter) so they had to be concise with laws.
So it shows that clear incentives were important to the fabric of their society.

I wonder how Hammurabi's laws would have dealt with the bank failures...

ahhhhh incentives and the blockchain.
We're in a brave new/old world.

Cheers my Steem friends. Much love.

Pretty interesting about the laws actually. Guess it makes sense!

Nice to see more of the exhibit :)

yea, I love ancient Egypt. Museums, documentaries, podcasts. Anything I can get my hands on.

Now I just need to visit someday ha

lol. you will ;)

ha! very educational, yeah where is this place?
Laws do need to have incentives, for the first recorded laws they had great wisdom, I'm impressed. they had alot of black and white, probably didn't have lawyers yet!

It's interesting we seem to be shifting back towards a more straight forward rule system with blockchain. The law is literally coded into the outcomes.
Something like Steemit is built on incentives.

so this is a big improvement right? the way they are writing the code? Are you still thinking about running for Witness?
ya know, alot of people will vote for you just because of the awesome hat!

Awesome I want also to visit this place

It amazes me all those artifacts have survived throughout the years.

Hahahaah you are right the scene looks pretty similar to the movie Indiana Jones and the crystal skull.

Hammurabi's laws would have been rough for some bankers. How to punish some who is responsible of thousands of foreclosures?

interesting things to checkout there so nice thanks for sharing this adventurous experience with us :)

good job are you greate sir
