Dwarf Stars and Ancient Religion
All ancient religions were astral in nature; the curious name associations between ancient pantheon gods and our planets are primordial. Primitives seeking to devise an astral religion from scratch in our own age would invariably end up worshiping the sun, the moon, and possibly Venus.
However the two chieftain gods of all ancient religions were the two former dwarf stars, Jupiter and Saturn and particularly Saturn. Vestiges of that ancient reality still surround us. We still call our sabbath "Saturn's Day"; the main religious festival in ancient Rome was "Saturnalia"; Virgil notes (Aenid) that Rome itself was built over top of the remains of a more ancient city called “Saturnia”; Plato consistently refers to antediluvians as "Nurselings of Cronos/Saturn"; classical authors including Hesiod and Ovid refer to a "Golden Age" when Cronos (Saturn) was "King of Heaven". In the same language, our sun is the "King of Heaven" now.
After the Saturnian/Golden age, Jupiter took over the position of chief god for what Greeks and Romans called a more brief "Silver" age before the inner planets began to orbut our present sun directly.
The name "Jupiter" comes from Sanskrit ( Dyaus Pitar) which can be literally translated as Sky Father, but the language does not mean "our father the sky" as some academics claim; it means Our Father [IN] the Sky, i.e. the gas giant planet and former dwarf star, Jupiter. There do not appear to be any exceptions to this basic rule. The name "Jahveh" is the same basic name as "Jove" ("By Jove, I think she's got it!!") which is another name for Jupiter.
Likewise with "El" You can convince yourself that El was the universal Med basin name for Saturn by doing Google searches on "El Saturn Babylon" and you have to include the term "Babylon" to weed out the hits on urls for the old GM Saturn car dealeerships. Every one of the names ending in "el" that you see in the Bible and other literatuire meant something_or_other-Saturn.
So what happened to Jupiter and Saturn?
Again, stars of all types are powered by cosmic electrical currents; they are not thermonuclear furnaces. When a dwarf star is captured by main sequence star like our sun, the dwarf star dies out and becomes a gas giant planet. It is as if a 200 foot lightning rod was glowing in a storm when, of a sudden, the Acme lightning rod companies truck rolled up and employees got out and constructed a thousand foot lightning rod a couple of hundred feet away. The smaller lightning rod, no longer the focal point of any kind of a discharge, would simply go out and cease glowing.
The present locations of the bodies in our system are said to be a solution to a dynamical relaxation problem, meaning that you could start them from nearly anywhere and they'd be where they are now within a few thousand years. That also says that the conformation in which they had ended up after the capture of the Saturnian group by the sun could not have lasted.
The Ganymede Hypothesis goes into much more detail than this.

In some of the ancient artwork, artists even get the number of Saturn's rings right without the use of telescopes...
There is a controversy amongst people who follow this business as to whether Venus or Neptune was the body between Saturn and Mars in the Saturn/Shamash alignment. I take the side of Neptune based on axis tilt evidence. Some of what you see including this image takes the side of Venus.
