The main clues to the history of our planet are axis tilts and relative eye sizes.

The axis tilts tell a story of sorts. Uranus and Pluto, the two objects on the ragged edge of our system have tilts that are not related to anything else in the system and should be ignored; they may even have been captured from outside of our system. But the other bodies fall into two distinct groups:

  1. The group with axis tilts less than ten degrees, The sun, Jupiter, Venus, Mercury, Earth’s moon, Ceres... and
  2. The group with a roughly 26-degree axis tilt, Saturn, Neptune, Mars, Earth...

The idea that suggests itself is that the first group is more or less primordial but that the group with the roughly 26-degree tilts must have been captured as a group, recently. The idea would be that this group, still in some linear alignment leftover from a primordial Herbig/Haro arrangement , flew into the plane of the Sun/Jupiter system from the South at a roughly 26-degree angle and that, as the individual bodies were captured by the sun and began to orbit as they do now, ordinary gyroscopic force caused hem to keep that 26-degree angle of approach in the form of axis tilts.

That presents a picture in which, in a fairly recent past age, our system was in the form of a dual system:

● A warm, bright Sun/Jupiter system with Jupiter up closer to the sun than it is now as is the most common normal arrangement in our galaxy for gas-giant planets and dwarf stars aligned with a main sequence star like our sun (Hence the term “hot Jupiters”)...
● and a very dark sort of a Saturnian system with Saturn still in the form of a dwarf star and the bodies with the roughly 26-degree axis tilts aligned with it.

That explains the huge eyes of hominids, dinosaurs, and leftover creatures like owls, lemurs, tarsiers and what not.

Such an arrangement with Jupiter up much closer to the sun, would make Ganymede, Jupiter's largest moon, into a fresh-water ocean world rather than the frozen wasteland it is today...

That is the beginning of the Ganymede Hypothesis.
