The Petrovaradin Fortress is located in Novi Sad, on the right bank of the Danube and on the slopes of Fruška Gora. The first settlements on the site of today's fortress were still in prehistoric times. At this place, the Celts had their settlements, after them the Romans, and in the Middle Ages the fort was part of Hungary, until 1525 when it fell under the rule of the Turkish Empire. Under Turkish rule, the fort was until 1687. The Turkish army tried twice to regain the fortress (1694 and 1716), but unsuccessful both times.

In the period from 1692 to 1780, at the site of the previous fortress, the Austrians built a new fortress that has been preserved to this day.

During the First World War, in some rooms of the fortress there were prisons where there were many Serbs. Unfortunately, some were killed. After the war, the fortress was part of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, and since the end of the Second World War, it was part of Yugoslavia. After the breakup of Yugoslavia, the fortress is part of Serbia.

The clock tower, with the small hand showing minutes, and the big hand showing hours. It was created as such so that people on the Danube river can see the time.

In front of the entrance to the fortress there is a Catholic church dedicated to St. George, a protector of knights and soldiers.

The church was built in the period from 1701 to 1714.

From the fortress there is a beautiful view on the Danube River and Novi Sad.

My favourite castle on the Danube, particularly because of the wise function of the clock. There is a distinguished touch of nobility in Novi Sad - the wine, the music, the culture and the people who can be called nothing else but friends once you get to know them. Thank you, Goran!
