The Battle of Kosovo took place on 1389 between the army led by the Serbian Prince Lazar Hrebeljanović and army of the Ottoman Empire under the command of Sultan Murad.
Both were killed in battle. Historical sources do not have reliable information about who is the winner of the battle. However, a later stream of history shows that the Turks conquered Serbia and therefore eliminated the possibility of Serbian victory.

During the following centuries, the Battle of Kosovo became the central motive of Serbian folk epic poetry. In the Serbian folk epic poetry, the Battle of Kosovo is shown as a symbol of Serbian suffering, as the complete end of the medieval Serbian state. Many historical characters have become mythological, but in mythology they are quite different.
In addition to changing the existing historical figures, epic poetry has also produced many mythological personalities that did not have a historical basis.

The Jugović brothers or Nine Jugović, the nine sons of Jug Bogdan (Vratko Nemanjić), are popular mythological characters of Serbian epic poetry.
Poetry portrays them as Serbian heroes who fought heroically for their country and their people and they died during the battle as heroes. Their father had the same fate. Many parents in this battle lost their sons and family Jugović is a symbol of this suffering. In poetry there is also a mother of Jugovic, a mother who was left without a husband and no nine sons. Her pain and her terrible fate are also symbols of the defeat of Serbia and the Serbian people.

According to the legend, the fountain was built by Jug Bogdan and his sons before they went to Kosovo.
Above the fountain, a mosaic is painted, which representing nine Jugovic with Jug Bogdan in the middle, as they went to battle on the horses.

This is great, Goran.
My father's side of the family are Bosnian Serb, and it's really cool to see the history.

I like your desire to get to know Serbian history. I'm trying to write something in a lot of my posts about it.
