*GDR-Postcard from Brieskow-Finkenherd*	*DDR-Postkarte aus Brieskow-Finkenherd*
Today I would like to show you a - in my opinion - rather bizarre postcard from the former dictatorian socialist German Democratic Republic (GDR, East Germany, 1949 to 1990). This postcard is from Brieskow-Finkenhe(e)rd a village in eastern Brandenburg and shows the quite ugly smokestacks of the lignite-fired power plant Finkenheerd, operating from 1923 to 1992 (ok, I will admit that the lake with excursion boat in the foreground improves the overall impression). This power plant was originally the property of the Märkische Elektricitätswerk AG (MEW), however this corporation was expropriated in 1946, when the GDR took control of the power plant and managed it as a socialist nationally-owned enterprise under the new name Brandenburgisch-Mecklenburgische Elektrizitätswerke AG (BMEW). During WW II, forced laborers were working in the plant.	Heute möchte ich euch eine - wie ich finde - bizarre Postkarte aus der ehemaligen DDR zeigen. Die Postkarte stammt aus Brieskow-Finkenhe(e)rd in Ost-Brandenburg und zeigt die alles andere als ästhetischen Schornsteine des 1923 bis 1992 in Betrieb befindlichen Braunkohlekraftwerks Finkenheerd (ok, der See mit Ausflugsschiff im Vordergrund hübscht das Ensemble etwas auf). Das Kraftwerk gehörte ursprünglich der Märkischen Elektricitätswerk AG (MEW), diese wurde aber 1946 enteignet und als Brandenburgisch-Mecklenburgische Elektrizitätswerke AG (BMEW) als volkseigener Betrieb der DDR fortgeführt. Während des Zweiten Weltkriegs waren im Kraftwerk auch Zwangsarbeiter verpflichtet.
Apparently there was some kind of pride associated with this power plant during socialist GDR leadership, so this postcard was sold to the public. Unfortunately I do not know when this picture was taken, since the postcard was not sent. If you happen to have more information I'm happy to read your comment.	Offensichtlich war man in der DDR schon etwas stolz auf dieses Kraftwerk, so dass diese Postkarte verkauft wurde. Leider weiß ich nicht, wann diese Aufnahme entstand, weil die Postkarte nicht verschickt wurde. Falls jemand mehr weiß, bin ich für einen Kommentar dankbar.

From time to time I will present items from my collection here on steemit. These items are not necessarily valuable, but they transport a certain interesting mood or way of life of the not so distant past. I don't know if there is much interest for such a non-sensational historical topic here, but I'm sure to find out soon.	Ab und zu werde ich einige Stücke aus meiner Sammlung hier auf steemit präsentieren. Diese Dinge sind nicht unbedingt wertvoll, aber sie zeigen eine bestimmte Stimmung oder Lebensart der jüngeren Vergangenheit. Ich weiß nicht, ob es hier sonderlich viel Interesse für so ein eher wenig sensationelles historisches Thema gibt, aber ich werde es sicher bald herausfinden.
