The photo above is the scene in front of a mosque in Kampung Empang, Bogor, circa 1880, published by the publisher Carl Lang. We can see a large tree that might be hundreds of years old with a child climbing it. Under the tree sat several people who seemed to be resting and enjoying snacks.

It was also seen that several people dressed in Arabic and Javanese were standing while talking in the field in front of the mosque. Like chatting after praying in congregation at the mosque.

The name Kampung Empang was taken from the large pond in the area or also called Empang. The name of the village itself was originally Sukahati Village. But over time people called it Kampung Empang. At least since the early 1800s, official records from the Dutch colonial government have referred to the area as Kampung Empang.
