Cool Moments from History: Carrots don't help your eyesight, but they did help defeat the NazissteemCreated with Sketch.

in #history7 years ago

The rumour that carrots improve your eyesight was started deliberately by the British in world war II to cover up the fact that they had developed an effective airborne radar system.

This system (AI) was allowing the british to have a lot of success in finding and combating night time bomber raids, so to cover up the fact that they had a new system the story of carrots helping your eyesight was first created.

The war ministry planted a number of stories in the British papers about piliots that had fantastic night vision and put it down to the fact that they ate lots of carrots. And thus the legend began.
