was an American statesman and soldier who served as the first President of the United States from 1789 to 1797 and was one of the Founding Fathers of the United States. He served as Commander-in-Chief of the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War, and later presided over the 1787 convention that drafted the United States Constitution.Washington presided over the creation of a strong, well-financed national government that stayed neutral in the wars raging in Europe, suppressed rebellion and won acceptance among Americans of all types.


George Washington once led the victory in the revolutionary war with Great Britain, he survived as the army commander In 1775-1783,and presided over the writing of the Constitution in 1787.

The American Continental Army was an army formed after the outbreak of the American Revolutionary War by the colonies that became the United States of America. The Continental Army was supplemented by local militias and other troops that remained under control of the individual states. General George Washington was the Commander-in-Chief of the army throughout the war. In 1783 most of the Army was dissolved after the Treaty of Paris to fight for war.

in 1776 George succeeded in forcing England out of boston. but was defeated and nearly captured later that year when he lost New York City. After crossing the Delaware River in the dead of winter, he defeated the enemy in two battles, retook New Jersey, and restored momentum to the Patriot cause. Because of his strategy, Revolutionary forces captured two major British armies at Saratoga in 1777and Yorktown in 1781.

In battle, however, Washington was repeatedly outmaneuvered by British generals with larger armies.

He returned to his home, Mount Vernon, and his domestic life there, continuing to manage a variety of enterprises. Washington"s final 1799 will specified all his slaves be set free.
Elected as the first President of the United States in 1789, he attempted to bring rival factions together to unify the nation. He supported Alexander Hamilton"s programs to pay off all state and national debt, implement an effective tax system, and create a national bank, despite opposition from Thomas Jefferson.


George proclaimed the U.S. neutral in the wars raging in Europe after 1793.

Washington"s "Farewell Address" was an influential primer on republican virtue and a stern warning against partisanship, sectionalism, and involvement in foreign wars. Washington had a vision of a great and powerful nation that would be built on republican lines using federal power.

At his death, Washington was hailed as "first in war, first in peace, and first in the hearts of his countrymen". The Federalists made him the symbol of their party but for many years, the Jeffersonians continued to distrust his influence and delayed building the Washington Monument.

The Washington Monument is an obelisk on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., built to commemorate George Washington, once commander-in-chief of the Continental Army and the first President of the United States. Located almost due east of the Reflecting Pool and the Lincoln Memorial,the monument, made of marble, granite, and bluestone gneiss, is both the world's tallest stone structure and the world's tallest obelisk, standing 554 feet 7 11⁄32 inches (169.046 m) tall according to the National Geodetic Survey (measured 2013–14) or 555 feet 5 1⁄8 inches (169.294 m) tall according to the National Park Service (measured 1884).
