Vladivostok is Russia's largest port on the Pacific coast. in its place the city has existed for almost 160 years and of course in its time attracted the attention of the first photographers appeared on the Far East Land. Тhe more interesting it is to see and compare photographs of various buildings made with a difference of almost 100 years and even more.

It is possible to tell fidelity to traditions: in a building in which more than 100 years ago the branches of the State bank of the Russian Empire were located, the treasury of the Russian Federation now stands.

The Vladivostok post office built more than 100 years ago and now serves for the post of Russia

At the turn of the century, the newly developing regional center, Vladivostok, was required to solve the problem of postal communication between cities. The end of the XIX century was the time when the delivery of letters and newspapers to the Far East, stretched for months.

In 1862, Vladivostok and Khabarovsk sent a postal message: in the summer the letters were sent twice a month, and in the winter - once. The problem of communication was not solved even by the emergence of the Voluntary Fleet, which sent ships from Odessa to Vladivostok, linking the Far East with the European part of the country.

The newspaper "Kronstadt Bulletin" noted such a phenomenon as "pochtostoyanie" - a term that explained the dependence of the delivery of letters from the time of the year: in the spring and autumn the delivery of letters was stalled, and the residents of the city had to be content with newspapers and books of half a year ago.

In 1885, Vladivostok acquired a small postal house on the Alekseevskaya hill, which later became known as the Postal. Throughout the city began to appear boxes: letters were taken out every day twice - in the morning and in the evening. By 1895, a small post house on the hill was dilapidated, and in the winter of 1896 the City Council decided to lay the post office in Vladivostok.

Unique in its architectural appearance and design, the building in the center of the city belongs to the hand of Alexander Gvozdiowski. Being a regional architect, he not only created architectural ensembles, but also accepted completed projects, as an engineer.

The building in which the post office is located, in the first place, is attractive with its facade. In its decorative design, the main motifs are the Neo-Russian architectural style. In the characteristic frames of windows
are kokoshniks🇷🇺, the fidelity to the traditions of Russian architecture is clearly traced. Wide archivolts, keeled arches, an abundance of decor and a massive lower level of the building give it a monumental look.
