The beautiful temple of Prambanan
Its beautiful Prambanan temple. Prambanan Temple is located east of Yogyakarta, precisely in Prambanan Village, Bokoharjo Subdistrict. Its location is only about 100 m from Yogya-Solo highway. Part of the tourist area which is located at an altitude of 154 m above sea level is included in the region of Sleman Regency. while others are in Klaten.
Prambanan Temple is the largest Hindu temple in Indonesia. Until now can not ascertain when this temple was built and on whose command, but strong allegations that Prambanan Temple was built around the mid-9th century by the king of Wangsa Sanjaya, the King Balitung Maha Sambu. The allegations are based on the contents of the Syiwagrha Inscription found around Prambanan and presently preserved at the National Museum in Jakarta. The inscription dates to 778 Saka (856 AD) was written during the reign of Rakai Pikatan.
The restoration of Prambanan Temple takes a very long time, as if it never finished. The rediscovery of the largest ruins of the building, the Shiva Temple, was reported by C.A. Lons in 1733. The first excavation and record-keeping effort took place under the supervision of Groneman. Excavations were completed in 1885, including cleansing of bushes and groupings of temple stones.
In 1902, the effort was resumed by van Erp. The grouping and identification of the rocks of the ruins is carried out in more detail. In 1918, the restoration of the Prambanan Temple was resumed under the supervision of the Archaeological Service (Oudheidkundige Dienst) led by P.J. Perquin. Through this effort, some of the ruins of the Shiva temple can be reconstructed.
In 1926, a restoration committee was formed under De Haan to continue Perquin's efforts. Under the supervision of this committee, in addition to rebuilding the Shiva Temple the more refined results, begins also preparation of the construction of Apit Temple.
In 1931, De Haan died and was replaced by V.R. van Romondt. In 1932, the restoration of both the Apit Temple was completed. Restoration was forced to stop in 1942, when Japan took over the government in Indonesia. After going through a long and stumbling process due to the war and the transition of government, in 1953 the restoration of Shiva temple and two Apit Temple was declared finished. Until now, the restoration of Prambanan Temple is still being implemented gradually.
That is how I know how the history of Prambanan temple is so beautiful.
