Sure, I know what you're getting at: the state is the gang of robbers. And with the evil being done all over the world by western governments, by the so-called but totally fake democracies, I can understand this view. I also have seen countries where the state has been destroyed and the resulting anarchy has given reign to the rule of gangs of militias, far more deadly robbers, kidnappers and rapists, like in Libya, Somalia, South-Sudan...
Anarchy is one of the evils I would want to avoid. I believe that the only rational way toward freedom, is the slow and gradual dismantling of the power tools of the central state in favor of empowering much smaller local self-ruled units, direct democracies, where every person has equal rights and an equal voice within the community but also some responsibility for its upkeep and protection.
State collapse results in the rise of new states where people believe in the levitimacy of the state. Warlords have no power where no one obeys, and these 3rd world countries have no wealth and poor education making it easy for the warlords. But society only works because anarchy works.
