The Steem Block Chain as the new Library of Alexandria with added Fire proofing...

I considered the destruction of the Library of Alexandria as one of the most tragic events in human history. It was a repository where many of the great works from the minds of men were stored. This included large amounts of works by people like Plato. When it was destroyed so much knowledge of our past was lost. So many discoveries were lost. We have heard of Plato and we have works of his which we can read and have inspired many people. I mentioned Plato specifically as it is stated that there were actually far more works of Plato than what we have available to us today. Those other works were lost with the destruction of that Library.

I was watching a National Geographic special on Ancient Egypt and the Scorpion King last night. That is another example of someone we see hints of, but know very little about other than he predates the Pharaohs. I find myself wondering if in the Library that was destroyed that his story and the story of many others was lost.

Another great thing about the Library of Alexandria was that it was a place where scholars could converge and learn together. They could inspire each other, debate, and through their interaction they could take their minds to new heights and places they may not have ever reached without that inspiration and interaction with each other.

I am beginning to view Steemit.com, busy.org, and the steem block chain in general as the Library of Alexandria of the modern era. Some people may view that as the internet, yet the internet is frequently censored and parts of it are destroyed. The block chain is the avenue by which it can truly be preserved so it cannot be censored or destroyed. This has far more ramifications than simply being censorship free and freedom of speech. It has vast conservation of knowledge potential. As long as nodes remain somewhere to verify the blocks then in theory it cannot be destroyed.

I am also personally experiencing the interaction leading to inspiration and mind expansion through my interaction with the steemit community. You are expanding my mind. You are allowing me to exercise it and strengthen it. You are inspiring me to many personal AH HA moments. I share them and sometimes they end up being an AH HA moment for other people and we have this positive feedback loop where we just keep growing mentally... reaching upwards and seeing what strange things our minds can create.

If this experiment continues I believe this could end up in the long run being one of the most important things about the steem block chain. The interaction of minds and the conservation of knowledge...

This place sometimes puts me in a sense of awe... I am in one of those now.

Steem On!

LOL... that's world saving stuff... 1000 years from now those recipes will keep visiting aliens from destroying us.

On a personal level, I have regretted not listening to my grandfather and father when hey were telling stories of their youth. They were not important people to the rest of the world but had some great stories of their upbringing and life.
We who can still tell the stories of our youth should do so, this blockchain being eternal is the perfect place to put them.
Our great x 10 grandchildren could come here and learn what life was like in our day.
How many kids of today can imagine a life without a mobile phone to fiddle with, computer games to play with etc.
Someone else's story will prompt the memory cells and we would have a large collection of 'History', may be no 'platos, but at least something for your upcoming kids to read.
We already have the schoolers meeting and discussing things, so we are part way there.

Yes indeed. It's a wonderful thing noticing a lot of the inspiring interactions taking place, some which I am involved in and others i am seeing and reading. Nice posts today @dwinblood :)

Yeah my mind was unusually distracting today. ;)

That is a most excellent thing! Keep on keeping on.

That is a totally magnificent analogy! And I agree totally that the destruction of the Library of Alexandria was one of the greatest tragedies in human history.

I also think that idea could be planted as a "seed" in marketing efforts for Steemit... and for why someone might want to become involved with the site and community. Because we are building something here... and (for my liking) that angle of approach also plays much better than the blunt "get paid to blog" thing... which brings (largely) the completely wrong type of crowd.

Yeah I have quite a few marketing ideas. I was kind of waiting to see how this flagging crap was going to play out, as it sucks to put a lot of effort into marketing something only to have some big negative PR due to flagging nullify such efforts.

It may have to be marketed in spite of the flagging issues, as I see no indicators that is likely to be resolved. That means helping new people have a proper perspective on flags is likely also an important thing if any marketing is actually going to have a chance at not being nullified by a few powerful people that have their own opinions and love to show you those opinions in the form of flags.

The flagging annoys me... the infamous "experiment" was OK, hoping that it was no more than a temporary experiment. The ongoing stuff... especially the infantile "border skirmishes" between people having petty disagreements? That stuff reeks of the less charming reasons why sites like Reddit (and Digg, before) turn into strange clique-ish snakepits.

But... we have to move forward, and if the right people create good content, it may be able to overshadow the nonsense and eventually drown it completely.

Yeah today I was possessed.

Third time's the Charm...

Let's see who that "third" might be???

I too have always thought mankind would have benefitted from the library not having been burnt. However, I'm sure at the time people thought the library was indestructible. Just because we can't see how the blockchain can be destroyed today doesn't mean someone won't be able to destroy it tomorrow.
