The Hard and Cruel Reality Behind the Story of Game of Thrones
The famous HBO series of the great George RR Martin, has more secrets and mysteries than you can imagine. In many occasions reality can overcome fiction; If you are a follower of this series you surely know how cruel it can become on many occasions.
But how is it possible that reality is the same or more cruel than the series itself? I will show you without a doubt where George RR Martin was inspired in many of his scenes in Game of Thrones.
History of Medieval Europe
In Game of Thrones we have a totally fantastic created world, where there are dragons and frozen zombies. The point is that the great culprit George RR Martin is very much based on the history of Medieval Europe.

George considers himself a big fan of J. R. R. Tolkien, creator of the Lord of the Rings; the historical facts that I am going to name you can be much more brutal than those that RR Martin can show.
The War of the Two Roses
We started a little by this historical fact, a war that was formed between two families by the throne of England. A fight that would have "The Lancaster vs The Yorks", if you notice there is already a certain similarity between Lancaster and Lannister house.
Let's say that a large part of the series focuses a little on this war; since in Game of Thrones everything starts between the Stark and the Lannister. This war that was from the year 1455, was named war of the two roses by the emblems of both houses; where the Lancasters had a red rose and the Yorks a white rose.
Eduardo de Lancaster (Joffrey Baratheon)
The great Joffrey Baratheon, undoubtedly George RR Martin made this the most hated character in the series; that by the way there is a very good parody about Joffrey and Cersei that is titled "Tell me Something Beautiful". Do not believe that this character was invented by him, it is an exact copy of Eduardo de Lancaster (Eduardo de Westminster).
Joffrey Baratheon in Game of Thrones is a cruel character; especially with one person, Sansa Stark. Although I also end up torturing his uncle the gnome (Tyrion Lannister) enough. This character was an authentic psychopath, where he enjoyed the death and blood of others; is undoubtedly inspired by Eduardo de Lancaster.
Eduardo married Anne Neville, a member of the York house; the mistreatment both physically and psychologically, totally the same as Joffrey with Sansa Stark..
The Red Wedding vs The Black Dinner
One of the most brutal moments in Game of Thrones is undoubtedly the chapter of the Red Wedding. Moment when Catelyn and her son Robb Stark are invited to the wedding of Edmure Tully with Roslin Frey; that's where Walder Frey would murder the Stark for breaking Robb's promise to marry one of his daughters.
Well, this whole idea comes from "The Black Dinner", where the clan of the Douglas were invited to the castle of Edinburgh. You have to know that said clan were rivals of the King of Scotland about the year 1440; what these would not imagine is that they would be killed in the same dinner.
Fire Valyrio
It turns out that in the 2nd Season of Game of Thrones we could witness a great battle. Without a doubt the chapter of Aguasnegras, would be the first attack that would receive Landing of the King. But the fleet of Stannis Baratheon would end up burning under the Valyrian fire that Tyrion Lannister had prepared. The peculiar thing about this green fire is that it burns even in the water, but this did not leave the head of George RR Martin.
