Today I got to see some Canadian Warplanes...

in #history8 years ago

Lockheed CF-104 Starfighter

This aircraft established world records in 1958 for speed (1,404 mph) and altitude (91,240 feet)

In the cockpit of an Avro Canada CF-100 Canuck Mk. 5D

Best all weather intercepter of it's time.

The cockpit is very tiny and you have to know where all the controls are by feel because there's no way you're going to be able to look down and see them.

In the cockpit of a de Havilland Canada DHC-5A Buffalo

This plane was used for carrying paratroopers and dropping supplies on UN peace keeping missions to the Middle East.

McDonnell CF-101B Voodoo

The Canadian Forces operated this interceptor aircraft from 1961 and 1984, though they never used it in war.

Avro Lancaster

This famous WW II Allied bomber had some pretty sexy nose art.

One of the volunteers at the airport told us a story about how on one mission alone, 1000 Lancasters few across the English Channel using over 2.8 million gallons of fuel in one night...

...that's over 10 MILLION litres of gasoline used in under 10 hours.

You do the math.

Someone got rich.

just sayin'

Peace,

Sort:

There is always someone who get rich in a war and he is not the one fighting in it. Thanks for the great photos.
If you are interested in history I have just done a post on the novel of JRR Tolkien - The Hobbit.

I thought canadians were too polite to fight.

Yeah, we are. We call it peace-keeping, lol.

Yeah, it was my favourite.
