Thomas Sankara: "Africa's Che Guevara"

Some called him Africa's Che Guevra, others called him the upright man. A revolutionary in his own right with ideas possibly too brilliant for his time. His path to power was not peaceful and neither was his path out of power. He was assassinated in 1987, leaving Burkina Faso to face corruption and repressive regimes on its own without a true visionary to guide it.

Thomas Sankara was not a perfect man by any means. In fact, he was far from it, like most of us are. However, he made many attempts to break his West-African nation free of the chains of corruption with policy reforms that were designed to liberate women and reduce fraud within the political circles of Burkina Faso. The latter is most likely the reason for his assassination.

He was killed but his ideas were not. Rest in Peace.
